Planning permission for garden rooms in UK homes is becoming easier to obtain as more people realise the benefits of creating a small space within their garden for multiple purposes.
Here at ATT Fabrications, we have designed our garden rooms so that planning permission isn’t required in most cases. This can be achieved by complying with and exceeding building regulations when it comes to the construction of our rooms. All of our Garden rooms also fall under the maximum permitted height.
If you are unsure, please consult your local planning office for more information and guidance on requirements.
There are, however, some exceptions in some instances where you will require planning. These are as follows:
- When you are wanting to construct your Garden Building in front of the principal elevation of your property (more commonly the elevation containing the front door)
- You live in a conservation area
- Your property is listed
- Your building takes the total area of land occupied by buildings to over half (not including the original dwelling house as it was in 1947)
- If you plan on living in your Garden Building
